A summer Don Catrin cocktail built around fruit, citrus, cold glass, and the savory ritual of worm salt.
Story
Honeydew is subtle, which makes it a beautiful summer mixer when it is handled with restraint. It brings freshness without taking over the glass.
Mint gives the drink lift, lime gives it direction, and mezcal adds smoke underneath the melon. Worm salt turns the rim into the anchor, adding savory depth to an otherwise delicate cocktail.
This is a quieter summer drink: pale green, cold, and built for slow sipping.
Yield: 1 cocktail | Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 oz mezcal
- 2 oz fresh honeydew juice
- 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz agave nectar
- 5 mint leaves
- 2 oz sparkling water
- Worm salt, for the rim
- Ice
Method
- Rim a highball glass with lime and worm salt, then fill with ice.
- Gently clap the mint leaves to release aroma.
- Shake mezcal, honeydew juice, lime, agave, and mint with ice.
- Strain into the glass and top with sparkling water.
To Serve
Garnish with a mint sprig and a thin honeydew wedge.
Notes & Variations
- Use cucumber juice for half of the honeydew juice for a greener profile.
- Use tequila if you want the melon flavor to stay very clean.
Ritual
Sip from the salted side first, then from the clean side. The contrast shows why melon and salt belong together.
