Mezcalita de Tamarindo con Worm Salt with Don Catrin worm salt rim and bottle

Mezcalita de Tamarindo con Worm Salt

Mezcalita de Tamarindo con Worm Salt

From Oaxaca to your glass — a Don Catrin recipe.

Story

Tamarind is a classic Mexican flavor — tart, sticky, and nostalgic. Paired with mezcal, it feels like a memory: sweet at first, then smoky and deep.

Worm salt adds a savory edge that cuts through the sweetness and keeps the drink grounded. It’s the difference between a simple mezcalita and a ritual.

This is a drink for nights that stretch long, with music low and conversation even lower.

Yield: 1 cocktail   |   Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 oz mezcal
  • 1 oz tamarind concentrate (or tamarind syrup)
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz agave nectar (adjust to taste)
  • Lime wedge (for rim)
  • Worm salt (for rim)
  • Ice

Method

  1. Rim a rocks glass with lime and worm salt; fill with ice.
  2. Shake mezcal, tamarind, lime, and agave with ice.
  3. Strain over ice into the prepared glass.

To Serve

Garnish with a thin lime wheel or a small piece of tamarind candy.

Notes & Variations

  • Add a splash of orange liqueur for a rounder finish.

Ritual

Let the first sip linger on the tongue. Tamarind, smoke, salt — each arrives in its own moment.
