Blood Orange Mezcalita with Worm Salt
From Oaxaca to your glass — a Don Catrin recipe.
Story
Blood orange is deeper than regular citrus — darker, richer, almost wine-like. Mezcal meets it with smoke and warmth.
Worm salt sharpens the fruit and turns each sip into a slow reveal.
This mezcalita feels like winter sun — bright but low.
Yield: 1 cocktail | Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 oz mezcal
- 1 oz fresh blood orange juice
- 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz agave nectar
- Worm salt (for rim)
- Ice
Method
- Rim a rocks glass with worm salt and fill with ice.
- Shake mezcal, blood orange, lime, and agave with ice.
- Strain over ice into the prepared glass.
To Serve
Garnish with a blood orange slice.
Notes & Variations
- Add a splash of orange liqueur for extra body.
Ritual
Let the salt touch your lip first, then the citrus, then the smoke — in that order.
