Watermelon Mezcal Cooler with Worm Salt
From Oaxaca to your glass — a Don Catrin recipe.
Story
Watermelon with worm salt is a street-corner classic — bright, juicy, and a little spicy. Mezcal turns it into something for grown-up evenings.
The salt rim doesn’t just season; it frames the sweetness and brings the mezcal into focus.
This cooler is summer in a glass, with a smoky undertone that lingers like a memory.
Yield: 1 cocktail | Time: 8 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 oz mezcal
- 2 oz fresh watermelon juice
- 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz agave nectar
- Sparkling water (optional)
- Worm salt (for rim)
- Ice
Method
- Rim a tall glass with worm salt and fill with ice.
- Shake mezcal, watermelon juice, lime, and agave with ice.
- Strain into the glass; top with a splash of sparkling water if desired.
To Serve
Garnish with a watermelon wedge dusted with worm salt.
Notes & Variations
- Add a few basil leaves in the shaker for a herbal lift.
Ritual
Take a sip, then a bite of the watermelon garnish. The salt connects both in one moment.
